making a spectacle
Thanks to Ashlea for posting today. Read a little more about Ashlea here and be sure to check out her new blog here.
I’m sure it all started with Grace Kelly. Gorgeous Grace Kelly, my mom’s uncanny celebrity look alike (I know, she won the doppelganger lottery) and star of my favorite film of all time, Rear Window. But ever since stumbling upon photos of her on the red carpet, wearing amazing tortoise shell glasses, I’ve wanted a pair for myself. So after years of 20/20 vision I finally got my chance a few years ago when my Ophthalmologist declared me nearsighted and handed me a prescription. I’ve had a few pairs of glasses since, and none of them have quite met my geek chic needs (not on my insurance-less budget at least) though I did come quite close once, only to lose them a year later.
Enter Warby Parker. A friend of mine tweeted about this great company a few months back. They specialize in creating quality vintage-style prescription and non-prescription glasses… for only $95. Every style, frames and glare-free lenses included, for $95. And if that wasn’t enough, for every pair sold they give a pair to someone in need.
I’ve since had two rounds of frames sent to me for at-home try on (they also have a virtual try-on option) and I absolutely love them all, so much so I can’t decide which ones to get. I’ll leave you with a round up of photos for inspiration, then let you skip over to Warby Parker to get your try-on on.
I’ve had this picture from Michael Kors’ Fall 2008 Runway show bookmarked forever. Love how spotted these are.
MadWoman Christina Hendricks out and about town. Side note, I love her denim on denim paired with suede stacked heel boots. Love.
My always super stylish friend Ellie rocking vintage Calvin Klein glasses.
