Valentable Part 2

You’re invited to today’s how to, how to throw a fabulous Valentine’s party…Well, we can at least help get you set up with a beautiful table setting, you have to cook the meal, and entertain the guests… But we are making it easy for you to get the guests there, by offering free downloadable invitations! That’s right all you need to do is download the pdf (at the bottom of this post), print the invitations (I printed them onto some kraft paper card stock) and fill in the blanks! Viola, the invitations to your fabulous party are ready!

Yesterday I introduced to you some valentines table ideas. Today, I wanted to show you some of the details of our fairly-easy-to-recreate valentines day table. The first part of our table was our table linens. The tablecloth was courtesy of my linen closet and is a lovely Rubie Green flat sheet (how much do you love those pink chevrons?! Yes, my husband sleeps on those sheets every night…yes, he is very patient…and no we don’t use the flat sheet only the fitted, please don’t make your guests eat on used sheets…)

Place settings are so important, make them the most special part of your table! A great pace to start is with a beautiful napkin. Ours were from Ikea, I always keep these striped napkins on hand because they go with all my dish ware, they are adorable and the best part? They are CHEAP! I also think it’s always helpful to have pretty ribbon on hand, it’s always something that comes in handy. We used ribbon scraps in all sorts of colors and sizes on our table setting, we used it around vases, around candles etc. I find much of my ribbon from the dollar bin outside of Michael’s but I also order quite a bit of ribbon from this etsy shop. When in doubt, tie a pretty high quality ribbon around it! I also think it’s perfectly great to use your everyday plates (those are my everyday whites above) just spice them up beautifully colored napkins and don’t be afraid to mix patterns!

I love, I mean LOVE Japanese masking tape. I use it for & on EVERYTHING! For the table Laurie Beth had the genius idea of turning strips of tape into adorable little bows and sticking the downloadable love notes (below) onto the wine glasses. Not only practical (you can easily find your glass) but sweet! We also used the tape to decorate our plain jane cream candles but it literally has a million uses…monograms on napkins, seal your invitation envelopes with it, wrap it around flower stems in clear vases…and it peels up easily, leaving none of that sticky residue!

The key to making our table look lush and full (even though we only used two small bouquets) is to layer the vases & candles. We made use of bud vases some placed on a cake stand, which added color to the table and give it a fuller look. We also used some pillar candles and stands from Ikea that I literally drag out for every event, they are so versatile, they look expensive and they come in different heights with makes them perfect for using as accents. That adorable hot pink bud vase is my fav, and is from Kate Spade, I love love love love love it! No need for large over flowing vases, parcel your flowers out into julep and bud vases to spread the love a bit!

Parties are a lot of work, even if it’s just for you and another person…so to make your life easier I created some of the paper materials for you to download for free and to use at your par-tay! The name cards (above) can be displayed on little easels (found on the cheap and cheap at art stores) or on other little found objects or folded into tent name cards. There are also downloadable menus ready for you to personalize with the evening’s menu. All of the downloads are available below, just click on the link! I also made my own little “happy valentines day” banner. It was super easy, really cute and I am saving it  to use again next year!
