I love these vintage photos of Queen Elisabeth and her sister Princess Margaret. I wish people still took such care when dressing, oh the glamour of a by gone era… Just a little inspiration for your weekend. Happy Friday!

turquoise statement

My friend Sam introduced me to blog What I Wore and now I am obsessed! (Seriously, if you haven’t checked this blog out, do!) The other day I ran across a post that was so inspiring I couldn’t handle it! I love the chic southwestern outfit she put together. It’s adorable, feminine and best of all I am drooling over her turquoise necklace. I wish the nice weather would come so I could put together an outfit like this! I just need a big statement turquoise piece, which I think ties this outfit together. I have been debating about the purchase of a statement turquoise necklace and now (especially after seeing this outfit) I think I’m ready to take the plunge. Here are some of my favorite turquoise pieces out there in Internet land…

Figure 1| This one is my fav…I love love love this J Crew necklace that came out a few years ago. There are “originals” being sold on e bay right now for around $40. They are probably copies, which doesn’t worry me because this isn’t an everyday piece. I have bid on it a few times and have yet to win…but I have a feeling it will be joining my jewelry collection soon. Find the ebay version here or search JCrew turquoise necklace on ebay.

my spring basics

The rain has finally let up, here in dreary Seattle-land. The sun has been making an appearance which makes me very happy and dreaming of a real Spring…I so badly want to put away my dark winter layers and start dressing in happy Spring things. Here are some of my Spring basics, some I have in my closet already, some I am planning on adding… I love hearing what other people consider staples in their own closet, so what are your Spring staples?

1|  I have been wearing the same pair of aviators for about 3 years now. I love them. They are my go-to Spring/Summer essential. (especially when I don’t have time to do my makeup in the morning before running out the door, shhh don’t tell!)

2 |  I am going to add these sandals to my closet this Spring. They are a great feminine update to the gladiator. They are a great way to soften up a pair of rolled boyfriend denim or with a pair of patterned shorts (not that it ever gets that hot in Seattle, but a girl can dream!)

3|  I am on the fence about linen. I normally think it’s a horrible fabric because all you have to do is look at it and it wrinkles in a very unattractive way…so these exact pants are probably not in my future. But I do love the basic style of them. They are a modified high waist, I love the crop at the bottom and the tie at the top. So I will keep my eye out for something similar in a different fabric…

4|  I am still all about the statement necklace. It’s an easy way to change up an outfit. I know, I know…I keep hearing it’s all about the statement bangles for Spring. Sorry, I can’t do it! I need my wrists (I am on the computer all day long and those darn bangles just get in the way!) I love sea-foam color of this necklace. I think it would be great to wear dressed up or down for everyday. I love a great statement necklace…

5|  My normal scent is Michael Kors, but for Spring my soon to be sister in law turned me on to this Jo Malone scent and I am obsessed. It’s so light, citrusy (seriously so yummy!) I actually  feel lighter when I wear it. Here is a hint, go ask for a sample of it at the Nordy’s Jo Malone counter…my little sample only lasted a month I was so obsessed but it is a great way to try the scent out!

6|  This clutch is such a lovely peachy/coral color. I love. Practical for everyday? You bet! In fact carrying around a clutch (in my non-scientific opinion) has been better on my back and forced me to carry less plus I look so much more chic in the process. I really do think carrying around a colorful, lighter bag is the easiest, quickest way to update your look for Spring. (Especially if the weather is still crummy and doesn’t allow for sandals and sunnies!)
